Nutmeg (2022), is an immersive audio-visual installation designed for Stadsarchief Rotterdam to bring to the forefront awareness of the colonial history of the spice trade in The Netherlands.

 

Through the tyranny of the Dutch East India Company, nutmeg was one of the many luxury goods pillaged from the Moluccan Islands, famously known as the Spice Islands.

Colonial censorship has normalised the exploitative origins of this item, as an immersive experience Nutmeg wants to make viewers aware of the history of Dutch colonisation and change the perception of consumption of colonial items by opening Pandora's box on the real history of nutmeg.
